Route 12 and 115 - Wind Gap, PA
Joseph Caesar opened his first diner in 1938; there would eventually be two Caesar Diners in Wind Gap. In the early 1990s this diner was sold to make way for a Wendy's restaurant. The diner was to be removed to another location, possibly for refurbishment and a new life?
The first and original diner is still in operation today in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
ReplyDeleteKathie, did I get my story all wrong? Or was the diner removed to Wilkes-Barre?

ReplyDeleteI worked as a short order cook at Caesar' Diner in Wind Gap for 1 1/2 years. Joe Caesar and his core staff of brother Julius, son Val, Helen Smith, and Phil Marr were wonderful folks. I will never forget the education I got at Caesars and the wonderful people I met there. I left to join the Navy and served as a cook on submarines and later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to know if that diner was moved to a new location or demolished when Wendy's moved in. Please offer any info you may have about that to "bgreen.flyfisher@gmail.com"
Feb 4, 2016 still hoping for a response to the above question. Anyone with info as to a possible relocation of Caesar's Diner from the Penn-Can interchange in Wind Gap, Pa. please respond to email address.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill Green

ReplyDeleteI will see what information I can get. Joseph was my great uncle. His sister Mae is my grandmother. My grandmother is very ill and her passing is within days. I am starting to gather information for her obituary.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer, I'll watch for and appreciate any information you might have to offer.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek family the katakis thet where great people. They had purchased Cesar's Diner from Val Caesar and in 1994 sold it to Wendy's
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in this town in the 50's, if my memory serves me well, the ORIGINAL dinner was actually at the top of the hill in Wind Gap, Anyone recall the Ross Common Manor? There was a hotel and a playhouse there at one time, but that's another story. T. Scott has his business located there at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe original dinner location was to the right of the exit off of route 33 south at the top of the hill into Wind Gap, where Scott's sells mulch and landscaping dressings. Again, If my memory is correct, they moved the dinner to the lower end of Wind Gap, adjacent to where the Gap dinner is located. Then there is Ralph Fisher where he had his dinner which was located directly across from John Kostenbader's "SunCrest Drive In."
